About Me

Piano Lessons for All Ages – Personalized, Relaxed, and an Enjoyable Learning Experience

With over a decade of experience teaching students of all ages, I firmly believe that “you are never too old to learn.” My approach is individualized and student-centred, creating a nurturing environment where learners can explore a wide variety of musical genres (as can been seen from my testimonials).  I use a range of resources in my lessons, including my own arrangements of contemporary music, to expand students’ technical skills while keeping them engaged and motivated. I also encourage students to create their own musical arrangements, allowing them to learn music theory in an intuitive and enjoyable way.
Having been passionate about music since I began learning piano at the age of seven, it has always been an integral part of my life. While raising my family, I pursued an Open University Bachelor of Science degree, focused on music, education, and the psychology of child development. It was during this time that I decided to dedicate myself to a long-term career in piano teaching, aiming to create a supportive and encouraging environment for all students, even those who may feel nervous at first.
As a parent of children who have actively learned musical instruments from a young age, I understand the challenges faced by both students and parents when it comes to practice and time management. I have realistic expectations for progress and encourage consistent effort. Additionally, having pursued education later in life, I can relate to the challenges faced by adult learners and appreciate how daunting it can be to start a new skill as an adult.
The distance learning format of the Open University gave me confidence in online education, which proved invaluable when the pandemic hit. I quickly transitioned my piano lessons to a virtual format, continuing my own education through a Master’s degree in Music. This experience equipped me with tools used by musicologists and ethnomusicologists, which I now integrate into my teaching. I am a strong advocate for lifelong learning and continually seek new courses and masterclasses to enhance my skills. I believe that a teacher’s passion for ongoing education creates a dynamic and inspiring learning environment for students.

With over 10 years of experience teaching piano to students of all ages, I have developed a unique approach that focuses on fostering a lifelong love of music. I understand that many students seek a more enjoyable and stress-free way to learn, so I offer piano lessons that focus on the joys of playing, without the pressure of traditional exam-based structures. While I am happy to guide students through exams if desired, my approach is centered around allowing pupils the freedom to explore their own musical interests in a relaxed, individualized manner.
My piano lessons provide a nurturing and informal learning environment where students can develop their skills and discover a wide range of musical genres. I incorporate various teaching methods, including music anthologies, online resources, and my own contemporary arrangements, to help students enhance their technical knowledge while keeping them engaged and motivated.
Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced learner, my lessons are designed to be adaptable to your needs and interests.
